Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour, all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of pleasure now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Saviour am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
Fanny Crosby has been such an inspiration to Linda that she has written a dulcimer tab book of some of Fanny Crosby's great work.
Fanny Crosby was blind from birth, she wrote and sold over 8000 hymns in her life. Not much is known of the actual writing of "Blessed Assurance," but it is generally accepted that it has this background: Mrs. Joseph Fairchild Knapp, wife of the organizer of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, went to visit Miss Crosby to get her opinion of a melody Mrs. Knapp had written. "What does it say to you, Fanny?" Mrs. Knapp asked. Miss Crosby answered, "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine." And a few moments later Miss Crosby handed to Mrs. Knapp the completed lyrics. TablEdit is a program for viewing, creating, editing, printing and listening to tablature and sheet music (standard notation) for fretted, stringed instruments. Used for the Dulcimer it displays the musical notation and tablature in an easy-to-read format. If you do not have TablEdit, they do provide a free reader program that can be down-loaded by clicking on the TablEdit banner above. I love the fact that you can slow down the relative speed when first learning the song, AND on this duet you can play along!
